Im thinking it could change the moisture content in the wax? What do you think- I looked in the search and nothing was mentioned other than the corrosion of B.W. Hummm?

Not sure about moisture content, but I know a guy who potted some of his pickups with scented wax without any trouble and they work fine. He says his guitar now smells faintly of Apple Pie. ;DMy Momma always said, Stultus est sicut stultus facit

hey wade,
Can you make me up a set of lavender-scented Hell Babys....New idea...better patent it quickly....scented pickups.
I think it depends on how the oil was processed. If it's essential oil or oil that is derived from cold pressing, i don't think you'll have a problem because its pressed directly from the peel without the application of heat.
However, if it's d'Limonene, which is also derived from the orange peel, it is a mild solvent created via the distillation process. I wouldn't use it for the potting application if it contains d'Limonene. But i think they use essential oils for most scented candles to obtain the scent.
Most of the acid comes from the fruit rather than the peel.
I would be more worried about the effects of the solvent on the magnet wire insulation as opposed to the acidity...just a thoughtLast edited by kevinT; 10-11-2007, 12:24 PM.

PH....
You could get some PH papers and dip it in the oil to see how acidic it is. I know that some oils like olive oil the cheaper later pressings are more acidic. great idea though I'm off to the store to get some pachouli for my Hippie Love Fuckers, I mean Buckers....http://www.SDpickups.com

You better patent this one quick...
"the cure for players whose tone really stinks"
I have a wax manufacturer here locally who makes different types of wax for candles, and sometimes they sell overruns of scented wax. I never thought to use that stuff myself, because they couldn't tell me exactly what was in the wax due to confidentiality issues.
I would worry about additives just like you would if I used that wax.

I use a very small amount of lemon type oil ( the aromatherapy type ) in my wax , main reason is to disguise the smell of hot beeswax , I ended up with a swarm of angry ( I assumed they were angry I didn't wait around to ask )bees buzzing around my workshop. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Quote:Possum. I know that some oils like olive oil the cheaper later pressings are more acidic. Iv'e got seven Olive trees in my summer garden down south so whats the acidity of early pressings Possum as I could sell a couple of gallons to Wade and make a killing here. If his buckers are hot enough he could fry eggs at the same time.
Sorry not been in touch Wade but my (UMMMM! accident all healed now) and me vaccy all over so will be in touch as I still got to get a post out to you so sorry about the lapse but will get sorted.
