There's quite a bit of info/inside views of Hofner pickups here - Hofner Guitar Pickups
Their designs are interesting to study...You can tell they tried to make the most out of each magnet with all sorts of metallic gizmos, and some of those pickups sound really nice!

Probably.
Fact is AWG scale is not linear so some equivalences are either not exact or need a long string of decimals ... which is irrelevant because there´s quite a tolerance spread on very thin drawn wire, specially if copper.
Just check Elektrisola (or any other) wire tables, tolerance can easily be 5 to 10%
As in:
Gauge: 42 AWG & 43 AWG, 44 AWG
Weight: 1.0 Pound Each
Length: 42 AWG - 51,313 Feet (approx.) • 43 AWG - 66,092 Feet (approx.) • 44 AWG - 79,798 Feet (approx.)
Diameter: 42 AWG - 0.0026"-0.0028" • 43 AWG - 0.0023"-0.0025" • 44 AWG - 0.0020"-0.0022"
Insulation: Solderable Polyurethane
Build: Min-Nom
NEMA Description: MW-79-C
Temperature Rating: 155°C (311°F)
Color: 42 AWG - Natural • 43 AWG - Natural • 44 AWG - Red
Reel Size: 2.5"x3" Spool
Manufacturer: ElektrisolaJuan Manuel Fahey

Juan, we're not talking about tolerance out to a long string of decimals. We're talking about order of magnitude.
You told jrdamien "50 mm is about 2 inches"- which is correct.
You went on to say "maybe you mean 0.005mm wire (5 thousandths of a mm) which amounts to some AWG 44"- which is incorrect.
AWG 44 is approximately 0.05mm (5 hundreths of a mm). So your "correction" was off by a factor of 10.
If I had better language & social skills, I would have said this more clearly & succinctly, and in a playfully teasing manner.

EDIT
How's this? "Hey Juan, is it true you worked on the Hubble telescope?" Nah, too snarky.DON'T FEED THE TROLLS!

So we agree: 44AWG = .0020"-.0022" = .051-.056 mm (to 2 significant decimal places).

Think you are making a big point out of a very small one.
And yes, I typed one extra zero, so sue me, the main point was that pickup wire was NOT 50 mm, a FOUR orders of magnitude error now that you insist on that , anything else comes in its wake.
I even got close with the AWG value, which I included just as a courtesy to you Imperial heathens
Oh well, no good deed goes unpunished, just ask some moderator to remove all of my posts in this thread, which I should have left unmolested.Juan Manuel Fahey
