I spend many years playing Rickenbackers. Not too narrow, not too wide. I made one of my five string with P bass spacing at the nut... not sure what I was thinking! It's a god workout for the hands though. That big neck sounds great too.
Funny thing is back in the 70's, all I ever saw were P-basses. I hardly ever saw anyone with a Jazz bass. Now people act like that was the bass of the 70's. I don't care for Fender bass necks either - Made in Indonesia Ibanez TR Series is perfect for me (cheap too).
