  • Mustang pickup size?

I have a customer that wants a single Mustang pickup. I don't have any to measure. Is it the same size as a strat? I know the poles are flush, but not sure about distance between flatwork or overall size. Any help?

Here's the measurements of the bobbin taken with a digital caliper:

    The top flatwork is 0.602" (15.31mm) by 2.626" (66.72mm). 0.060" (1.55mm) thick.

The bottom is 0.90" (22.86mm) at the thickest part, by 3.286" (83.49mm) long. 0.123" (3.13mm) thick.

0.403" (10.25mm) between top and bottom flatwork.

Magnets are 0.185" diameter, and are 2.04" from E to E (centers). 2.225 to the outsides of the magnets.

They are 0.628 tall. They slightly protrude from the top flatwork by 0.035" (0.90mm).

On mine the top is black and the bottom is gray. It has a blue and yellow wire. The mounting holes are 3.04" apart.

You sir are a God Quick question.. 0.628 tall, are you referring to the magnet length or top of flatwork? Also, by the pics I assume they're wound fairly light

Glad I could help! Easy to do when you have a digital caliper sitting in front of you. It took me longer to find the pickup!

That's the total hight of the magnet. They stick up 0.035" (0.90mm) out the top of the flatwork. The total flatwork hight is 0.585" (14.86mm). The space where you wind is 0.403" (10.25mm) high.

Yes, they are wound with NOS vintage invisium wire from 1960... It gives a light and airy tone... kind of like an air coil!

What I can't tell you is how much wire was wound on it! I think I wrote the DC resistance down somewhere.

The other pickup still has the wire on it... I'm not sure where I put that one! I have a lot of guitar parts in a lot of boxes... I do know where the guitar is though. it just needs a new pickguard and of course I have to put it back together.
