Tied off lead wires?

Is this how it was done? I was taking apart a PAF clone, and this is how the maker tied around his hot end of the coil. They claim it to be true to style of the originals. From what I could tell, he made a little loop, and fed the end of the wire back through the loop, a couple twists in there too. There are a few loose wraps left over when this was done. It does put both lead wires on the same side of the coil.

And before anyone gets up in arms about this...

This a broken pick up, that can't be truly replicated (heavy scatter pattern). As far as I know, it's not made by anyone on this board either. I only ask about the tying of the lead wire, because I am curious about the originals, and if it was done like that on them.

I just twist it around the lead and solder it.

I also just keep the leads tight on their side. Some times I give the ground one a little slack, and tape it to the side of the coil, before wrapping all the way around.

What else can you do but twist and solder?

Except I sand about an inch of the end of the wire to make sure the insulation is gone to get a good solid contact.
