Here's a Katrina survivor I got off ebay a few months ago. Not so pretty, but it still works - it's one of a pair, all that wax really must have saved it. Wolfe's cover aging thread reminded me of it.

The shiney one is another ebay pickup (not a Katrina pickup), DOA, but thanks to this place I was able to learn how to remove the cover (blow dryer) and fix it. It's hotter than most Speed Bumps, so I hooked them up to the DMM. It'll be going by the neck in a hollow body bass.

I don't...should have taken some pictures.

I didn't have to go far into it because the problem was the coil wire broke off the lead. There was still tape under that. I didn't measure the wire because I didn't want to break it with the mic and have to peel more tape and risk more damage. It had a big bar magnet (ceramic, I think) and a very flimsy bobbin or bobbin cover on top, kind of like on a DeArmond gold foil. There might have been something under that, don't know.

I'm not even sure of the winding direction, I'd guess CCW.

Chia (one of a pair, the other one is gone) is south, the shiney one is north.

Edit: Post 6 has a picture of the inside, and a old MIJ in the background. I was searching to find the winding direction and came across this thread. Looks like I might have measured it when I fixed it, 44 maybe.

Oh yeah, I remember those pictures now.

I don't think Katrina had anything to do with it. Sure, it looks like its been in Atlantis for a century, but what actually did the number on that pickup was the corrosive fumes from a decomposing celluloid pickguard.
