I was able to edit the index page but starting a new page is a bit of a mystery to me. I read the instructions and it says simply edit the URL at the top of your browser and the new page will appear. I don't understand how this happens but I'm not logged in yet so maybe a member gets new page privileges..

Oh cool. I remember you showed me this wiki and then I had forgotten all about it. It just popped in my mind two days ago.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

            Hi Tboy what's pickupage.com for?

              PickupAge.Com

The old forum was about guitar amps, an Amp Page, as it were,
and was called ampage at firebottle.com. With time,
it grew other forums for music-related electronics.

The pickup makers forum was originally at an Australian ISP but
had to move when the ISP got bought. Tboy generously allowed
us to make Ampage our home.

Now, there is a pickup page called pickupage as a
front end for the forum and the Wiki.

I know I would have liked to have a "infosite" when I begun making pickups... But it didn´t take much time to get the answer I wanted on this forum...

                Thanks folks....

If I just got some good new parts or materials sources, that alone would make it worth it. For that matter, some vendors not above small orders themselves might eventually flock to such a place because it would get the more customers.

                    Level of excellence!!

So, could we exclude the Shitty companys that fuck us over and not pay them any props helping further for a more solid list of business relations of high level?

Since it's a FAQ, how about starting a list of actual questions which have been frequently asked?

The questions could then be answered in the Wiki so as to keep this sticky thread lean, wading through long threads is well... you've done it.

So fire away, it's too early for me to come up with anything useful but:

                      Where can I get...wire,magnets,bobbins...

                      How do you...sodering,chamfering,tensioning...

                      Making a winder...counters,speed,cnc...

                      What are the specifications of...

Pickup types, how they work, comparisons, deviations from the norm, gallery

                      Makers list

                      Frequently encountered problems,

                      History, patents of interest

                      Software

Please someone add some structure to this, as I said - it's too early for me.

                      S.

Until then, I wonder if we should make a FAQ
or a pickup makers' resource page in the guise of a "sticky" thread.

In my perfervid imagination, it might start small with some lists:
                          1. Wire Vendors
                          2. Magnet Vendors
                          3. Parts Vendors
                          4. Technical References

We would collaborate and make it up as we go since
it has to serve _our_ needs. It would be nothing so formal
or big as a Wiki, just something small that scratches an itch
and makes things a little easier for people to learn the ropes.

                          -drh
Sounds like we need a big annotated list of patents, as patents seem to be the primary technical literature for guitar pickups. One annotation would be a cross reference taking one from pickup make and model to the relevant patents, and back.

Pickup Patents list in the Pickupedia wiki

                            Please help.

Adding even one pickup patent reference with a
short comment would be a great improvement.

                            Register/Sign in to www.pickupedia.info,
click on the patents link and add a patent reference
with any comments you care to append.

To seed the field, I've added a link for the Seth Lover PAF. It looks like:

US Patent 2,896,491 Magnetic Pickup for Stringed Musical Instrument (Seth Lover, 1959)

                            UPDATE!
A list of ~80 pickup patent numbers with links to the USPTO patents has been added.
Add new patent numbers if you don't see them.

                              Pickup Patents List with LINKS

The Pickupedia wiki has a list of ~90 pickup patents in chronological order dating back to DeArmond's 1948 "Guitar Magnet Microphone".

                              http://pickupedia.info/index.php/Patents

Within the table, the patent number is a clicky link to the USPTO patent document.

Of course, it is incomplete and, being a wiki, may be updated anytime.
