  • Stewmac's Humbucker Covers?

Does anyone know who makes Stewmac's humbucker covers? Is it the same company that makes Allparts' covers?

Is it WCR or whatever name of the company where Guiter Jones get parts?

          Why not,
he would earn money on most pickups made on the planet exept Dimarizivo´s pickups.

I know they don't mind sending you the plastic covers for the Music Man bass pickups. One of my customers bought one from them to have me copy it in wood.

They also sell double cream PAF's with covers that aren't soldered on.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

              ..yes.

I had a customer who ordered a shortleg PAF baseplate from Duncan as a replacement.

I have a luthier's account with them which gets me favorable pricing provided i give them a 30 day lead time on orders. I could try to sneak in a 10,000 piece HB cover order and see what happens.. Unfortunately I have no money to cover it. Evan Scopp used to be in charge of global OEM sales but he has since moved up the chain of command to be VP of something. If one of you is going to be at NAMM you can always ask in person, just make sure you have a hot looking sheep on your arm. I hear Seymour's a sucker for a pretty face. OK I didn't say that.

heck, I'd be happy just to know where he gets his covers made. I would just ask the manufacturer to copy their tooling so that you'd be sure that everything fit and was plated correctly.

I doubt if Duncan's source would allow someone to use thier tooling because of the limited lifespan of it. It would wear out the dies sooner.

When I first started, I naively sent DiMarzio and Duncan e-mail asking if they'd sell red bobbins, etc. My recollection is that DiMarzio replied and it was sort of an "ehhhhh ... well ... no" response. YMMV.

well, well, well, .....folks...Just got an order from stewmac. ....and guess who their getting their covers from these days?....Schaller....and i have to say they are nice. The only thing is that they are chrome plated. I have them next to covers from Tonerider, and Allparts, and the Schallers are nicer in terms of the stamping and shape of the enclosure IMO. The Toneriders are a bit on the square side. The Allparts ones bow out a bit on the bottom sides. The Schallers are perfect in form IMO.

Spence, I see what you mean about the yellowish tint to the nickel plating after looking at them more closely. The Allparts covers have the same tint. Maybe it has to do with preping the surface before the plating...something like a primer?

Maybe chrome is the way to go...but i know many folks don't like it because of the way it looks and it ages differently than the nickel.

I also weighed all of them. The Allparts and Tonerider covers both weigh in at .8 oz. The Schaller weighs in at .6 oz.

I'll have to try them out to give you a tone report.

according to their online catelog they are nickel silver.

I have sanded, cut, punched holes, and pretty much destroyed 1 cover to find out if they were brass...and i don't see any yellow/goldish tint to indicate brass.

I don't have a grinder, however, i will borrow my brother's dremel to grind the plating down to be 100% sure.....but so far so good....they don't appear to be brass...but I will give you my final word once i take the dremel to it.

                            Oright!

                            Thanks Kevin,
I will check on the covers at Schaller.
I always use a file or sand them on the inside to find out wich material they are made of.
