Hey there!
I've wound several strat pickups and only recently found that I have eliminated shorts to the magnets without the use of the black paper tape that I would use in the past. I've been winding at a fairly low tension (not really really loose, but what I feel is loose enough to keep the pickup from shorting) for a few layers before I bring up the tension.
Is this that rare? I wonder if I'm actually doing something wrong as many have wrote on this forum that they cannot achieve this.
I do think that the black paper tape layer is not a bad idea having repaired so many rusty fender pickups that ate the wire up at the core.
Thoughts?
