  • P90 vs Humbucker magnets

I pulled the Alnico bars out of a P90 that I have and notice they are a bit narrower by about 1/8" pole-to-pole than a standard humbucker magnet.

Are P90 magnets typically narrower in width? I have no other P90s for comparison.

What brand were they? I just use standard HB bars.

They are GFS (GuitarFetish) pickups - an Internet store brand, if you're not familiar

I don't know what the standard for P90’s but all I have seen used normal humbucker sized magnets. GFS pickups are like a mystery grab bag of pickups. You send them your money and they send you something that resembles a certain type of pickup but it won't match the industry standard and it typically won't match the specs they list on their website either. In fact, the specs on their website don't match themselves…

The mags used for P90's and humbuckers are interchangeable. Some are 2.25" long, most are 2.5" long. Some may be somewhere in between. As long as they make solid contact with all 6 poles, the length otherwise doesn't much matter.
