  • Original Charlie Christian Pickup Repros

Don't know if anyone has seen these, but I thought you pickup makers would find this interesting. This company is making reproductions of the original CC pickups.

Here's a link to the site.

    ....

I have a customer who bought one and says they don't sound like the real deal, he wanted me to fix it, but I don't have a guitar to test in and its kinda like the PAF deal, the originals had stuff going on in them we can only guess at plus aged wire so making one that sounds perfectly like an old CC pickup isn't going to be easy.....

I dont know a lot about these but from what I remember from the originals is the blade on the ones on the site you listed dont look as thick as the originals. I think Possum has done a lot of research on blades, thickness's, material makeup etc.. to verify this.

Come to think of it, Jason Lollar knows a ton about these I think....

It never ceases to amaze me that people spend so much time and effort on those pickups. It's a pretty limited market. But anyway, they should be wound with 38 AWG for the early ones, 42 AWG for the later ones.

I've heard Lollar's first hand in a tele. Even if he's not making them dead on to the originals, they are damn nice pickups.
