Anyone got a good source for clear cases...Hard plastic cases. Similiar to S.D. in construction thickness bigger for sets>

No clear cases (which WOULD be nice), but on a different note I've been looking for clear bucker bobbins. Kinda thought that was what this question was, clear covers. Sorry...not trying to hijack, maybe I'll start another thread.

Uline has those thin ones. Plastic is so 1990's, you want something recyclable don't you?

What about "pickup in a bottle". Beer bottles are free in my back yard. I'll bet true blues men would be thrilled to break them to get the pickups out.

Well, TAP Plastics sells those ones that used to come with incense in them back in the 60's... a tall square shape with the top on top. Many of the pickup mfgs use them but they aren't as cool as the SD ones...

Some interesting stuff here. Looks like one of the clear hinged boxes might work for buckers. The friction fits are a bit limited in available dimensions.

            May be something here too:

              Go Green...

Plastic packaging is bad for the planet, they go from you basically into landfills, no one keeps them, if you need to have some kind of packaging use recycled cardboard boxes and print labels for them like Fralin does.....

I use small cardboard boxes. They look quite nice with my label on them.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Packaging to me is one of the biggest PITAs. For something so simple, I find it difficult to get everything just right. I looked into a number of possibilities (custom printed boxes, blister packs, plastic and metal boxes, but it came down to flexibilty, cost, and ease of use for me...what I decided on was the good ol cardboad box....cheap, environmentaly friendly, quick to reorder, not bad in appearance (you can dress it up with with a low cost label) etc...

Did anyone else see those really nice mini metal see-through boxes. I can't remember who had them...maybe Rockfield? They must have cost a fortune. Plastic gets scratched up and after a while it doesn't look new.

I think folks don't really care as much about the package (unless the pickups are sitting on the store shelf). They're more concerned with the tone of the pickup. Plus the packaging just gets tossed in the trashed.

Seymour, DiMarzio, and even Wolfe have nice plastic packages. I just found that it was more of a hassle...getting foam inserts and getting professionally printed labels.

Just my own observations and opinion.

                    zen packaging...

When I ship pickups, I wrap them in 3 layers of paper towel, tape it up, then put in a zip sandwich bag and tape that up. In six years no one has ever complained or even mentioned my packaging. If you are selling retail in stores, there are ready made cardboard boxes that flip up to display the item. I think little things like that add up, I finally watched An Inconvenient Truth DVD, there's a small chance that little things everyone can do will avoid a world wide catastrophe; even though it really looks like its just going to snowball, I try to do my small part to stop the inevitable. when I look at all the little kids that live on our block I dread what they are going to have to live through when they grow up...

Al Friggin' Gore's carbon footprint went up 10% last year, and that's a fact.

                      http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/...ticle_id=367He consumed

He uses twice the energy in one month to run his home as the average American uses in an entire year - 20 times the national average. Forget about the private jets. Policies based on his notions, and those like him, will cost the entire world far more in the end than simple prudence in resource management.

I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in bush(#&t like "Inconvenient Truth". The same dumb-asses are claiming global warming is causing stronger earthquakes, global warming is causing the floods, global warming is causing more hurricanes ... no wait, that was proved to be actual bulls%*4 over the last two hurricane season. The same idiots or those that spawned them were clamoring over "Global Cooling" in the early 70s. Oh, and we were to be out of oil by now according to what they were saying then. There's a lot of smart folks here who ought to be able to figure out that the world is driven by cycles. We've had "Global Warming" before. WTF caused it then when green house gases caused by man couldn't have been the root? Wait. That's in fact an inconvenient truth.

You want a plastic box, get a plastic box. You want to be "green", then be green. I think it's a good idea too. But I'd dispense with basing such decisions on junk science and the mutterings of a psychopathic nut-job who cares no more for the environment than his own "carbon footprint". You want the snake oil? They got it by the barrel and will hand it over for a not so nominal fee. Just promise them some carbon credits.

I'm tellin' ya Skinny....It's those damn PAFs causing all this trouble....I actually think Gore is an alien...I saw him and Bush on the White House lawn the other day when I was taking my walk at lunch....they were both sitting in thier Adirondack chairs winding coils for PAFs on their Tanac winders ...... damn conspirators...

I hear what you're saying though...

I bet if you put the call out to all those music stores that install pickups you could pick up a lifetime supply of the SD boxes. It wouldn't take much to re-brand them.

I might just send an email to Evan Skopp asking SD to reconsider the plastic. They will probably reconsider when the oil shock hits the plastics industry with 50% increases in the fall.

I have also looked at the boxes that Seymour Duncan uses. They have remained very much the same for as long as I can remember. But I can't get those without having them made.

I used cardboard boxes to start with. They just looked cheap and a bit amateur. That doesn't worry me too much but I have noticed over the years that many of my customers who bring me a pickup for rewind have some form of plastic box to contain it. It's usually a Duncan box even if the pickup isn't.

So, I decided that I would use a plastic box so that the customer could re-use it and more importantly would want to keep it. The boxes cost me quite a lot of money but they also provide an enormous amount of protection compared to cardboard and tissue / bubblewrap alone.

                              ....

I guess you didn't actually watch the video. No one ever said global warming is CAUSING more hurricanes. Its making them STRONGER. Hard cold science. It does cause extremes in weather, you really should watch the video. There are alot of videos out now on the subject, the focus isn't on Gore the focus is on whether human beings are going to even exist 100 years from now; its not much of a stretch that serious food and water shortages will be here before five years from now.

Whats going on now is so far out extreme compared to ice cores measurement etc. going back ten thousand years, its hard to say its a "cyclical" thing. Anyway, the only scientists disputing all this stuff are the ones on the Bush payroll. Alot presented in the video I was unaware of. there are just too many people on the planet and more all the time, all consuming non-renewable resources and dumping chemicals and poisons into everything, the air, the water etc. Most of these chemicals are totally alien to the environment and will still be here 100s of years from now. Did you know they are predicting the ocean will be DEAD in less than 50 years? Gore didn't invent this information, just collected it. Life is on the verge of becoming very hard for every living thing on the planet sooner than anyone thinks. If one of those big ice shelves breaks off and melts and changes the ocean temperatures inbetween here and europe, Spence is going to be living in arctic temperatures. This stuff isn't fantasy. Its on the news every single night. Anyway I've said my piece.
