      Cool pictures.

There was a discussion here lot long ago about brass P-90 baseplates.

Here's a set of 1954 Les Paul P-90's with nickel silver baseplates.

All the non dogear P-90's I ever had were just like this.

And here's those freekin epoxy potted pickups just like the ones that came in my '78 SG, damn those were some extremely crappy sounding pickups.

wish I still had 'em, though, I'd go after them with my Dremel now that I have the patients for something like that.

I had a set of epoxy encapsulated covered Dirtyfingers for a while.

They were actually very nice sounding pickups, but had a bit more hum than I wanted to deal with in a recording situation (which is about the only time I play guitar these days) so I sold them.

And yes, they were Dirtyfingers, and not Super Humbuckers.

You can try and remove the epoxy on something like that, but you wont be left with anything usable.

I think Bill Lawrence designed all those encapsulated pickups.

Yep the Dirty fingers came two decades after the ones I'm referencing, but yeah, Bill was "responsible" for them, in fact, while the Bill Lawrence stuff was avaialble "back in the day", but specifically, because these sounded sooooo crappy, well that is why I never had anything to do with Bill Lawrence pickups from that time on.
(shame too because his "Blade" thing was kind of cool)

Thanks to Bill I went with Larry, geez that's a funky testimonial!, almost embarassed to say so.

Bill also doesn't try and sound like PAF's. He's into a very clean bright tone.

You know that Bill taught Larry how to make pickups when they worked together at Dan Armstrong's shop in NYC!
