  • Which Enamel wire to use?

I'm going to buy my first spool to wire today! Yeah!

Is there a brand of plain enamel wire that people recommend? I've read that people have had a hard time finding good 42awg that measures to 27 with a micrometer. The stuff mojo sells looks good, but is it the real deal? Is there a better place to buy it?

    ..

there's only two places in the US that have PE , Mojo stuff is great wire but its on the fat side, almost .0028" , MWS is the other place and it varies alot from spool to spool, its a crap shoot what you'll get. I think Wirenetics may have some NOS PE left over from 2004 but its an even worse crap you may get some that measures .0032" which is almost useless for everything...

        ....

Elektrisola is the Mojo wire, they officially don't make plain enamel, not sure how Mojo is getting it, Elektrisola told me you have to order 3000lbs for a special order. No one wants to make PE anymore because pretty much the only ones using it is pickup makers...

What do you do when PE is all gone and only poly is left?

I do use Elektrisola, but it's SPN, not enamel. It's very nice wire.

I bet Duncan will have his own batch made...

PE is not required to wind a great pickup. It's not even required to wind a "PAF" - a pickup with "that" tone - though a couple will argue that point ad infinitum. When it's gone, press on.

BAE said he won't have anymore, its been some time since he had that wire. SPN doesn't sound or wind like PE, this can be proven on an LCR meter even.
When its finally never made anymore you'll have to buy the Digital Plain Enamel Simulator Pedal from Duncan probably :-)

                        Yes,
I had an antiquity p- bass singlecoil for rewinds and the original wire was way to purple. It did not look like PE I think it was colored polysol or something like that.
