  • Pole spacing for these two Gibson HB's

    Anyone know (for sure) what the pole spacing is on these two pickups which are in a Les Paul Studio:

    490R
    498T

    A caliper-challenged friend who lives many miles away want's me to make him a set for his 90's LP Studio, he likes his gold covers and want's to reuse them, I don't know the pole spacing of these two pickups and would need to be sure so they fit his covers.

    I suspect they are 50mm and 53mm but really don't know for sure. I checked the Gibson website but don't find the pole spacing in the spec's, guess I might have to take a trip to the local guitar center, sheesh!.

    Anybody know (for sure)?

      My guess would be 49.5 but maybe you could get the guy to send you the originals (or at least the covers) so you can verify?

        ..

        For something like that I would want to do a 'lefty / righty' and have both items in hand to compare fitting.

          Never mind, I've negotiated another form factor, thanks for all the help.

            Why the ? Your first post asked if anyone knew "for sure" - apparently, no one did.

            Would you rather bad information over no information?

              BBBZZZTTT! You've asumed the wrong thing, the eye roll is from me, for me, and about me.

              I was going to post about this when I got home tonight, so here goes...

              Not only did I ask here, but elsewhere too, and trolled Google hits of other boards and discussions for info ad nausium, I got my numbers just before I left for an out-of-towner and ordered the bobbins I needed.

              Then, just yesterday as I got back in town I got a call from my friend, he decided he would like the PAF spaced (49.2mm) pickups instead of copies of his originals.

              He's my friend, so I'm not anoyed, but I do reserve the right to roll my eye's in sarcasm, ...there you go.

              Oh and the spacing, for sure, is:

              490R = 50mm
              498T = 53mm.

                My friends and family tend to annoy me much more than customers and acquaintences - your attitude there seems to be healthier than mine.

                  I'm no better than anybody else really, but this guy is a dear old friend that I have known since 1977, so by virtue of ancient'ness, I try to be patient with him.

                  He does this crap all the time tho (vent, vent) once he asked me to build him a couple effects, I delivered them a few months later, and he didn't remember asking me to do it.
                  (good thing his son was there to remind him)

                  Then there was the time I was building some FET compressors I got interested in over at prodigy-pro.com, and he said he would really like a pair for his studio, so I built them, yep changed his mind when I showed up with them, decided he wanted a couple tube compressors.

                  Then there was the time.... aw never mind, he's a good guy.
