  • What brand are my PAF pickups ?

    Hi,

I bought s/h humbuckers without markings on base plate.
    They read about 8 / 8.2K.
The legs are shorter then usual US humbuckers, but taller then PRS ones so maybe japanese making ?
On silver base plate there are 2 holes opposite for wire, braided wire.
On each wire there is a black heat shrink tube.
The covers seems to be made of brass, chrome plated.
    They were potted, zebra.
The wire through window is brown.
The magnets are Alnico, don't know wich kind, no markings on magnets, only north marking.

The bobbins are special: underneath not round but as identation on edge.

They sound just excellent, same as boutique PAF ones

Could they be japanese Dry Z or VH-1 or USA boutique winder ??

Sounds like those WSC bobbins with the flat edge.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

To me as good sounding as WCR, Wolfetone, Antiquity.
Same style as Ants I would say.
Doesn't look DM, baseplate different, no engraving of model.

Do you have picture of WCS bobbins ? It's the lower base of bobbin wich has identation on round side .

Would be easier with pictures but they are installed.
If anyone has expertise on japanese pups will pull one out.

There were some pictures posted here not long ago, and that's exactly how the bobbins are.

I think Guitar Jones sells those bobbins as parts.

So it's likely a WSC pickup, or one made from their parts.

Yeah, or some OEM made by WSC. It could also be a hand made pickup using WSC parts.

                  Or one of these:

I had Gotoh ones, never opened, though sounded just average. And only 1 wire hole on baseplate + long legs.

If they are these WSC they are quite incredible for the money, unless wound by someone else ?
