This masters thesis is a comprehensive analysis of high impedance guitar pickups wound with thin (AWG 42 or 43) magnet wire. The electrical characteristics of many common single coil and a few humbucking pickups are analyzed, modeled and compared.

Given the good detail in technical content, the conclusion could have suggested more specific technical areas for further research other than use the same methods to examine bass and other guitar pickups.

Otherwise, this thesis is a good summary for those wishing to understand the factors that contribute to the sound of pickup. The resonant frequency and amplitude of the resonant peak are governed by coax cable type and length; amplifier and pot loading; pickup magnet type and core material; as well as pickup coil shape and winding capacitance.
