  • RIP Rick Turner

I heard Rick Turner passed, googled for it and found this:

He was a member here IIRC.

Thanks for passing that along. Rick posted here regularly for a while. His approach to pickup design was inspiring to me, as were the guitars that he built. I emailed him twice, although he seemed gruff. he was generous with his time by replying to my questions. He was active on facebook after he moved away from here. It's sad to see him go. He was a true pioneer of the industry.

Drat! I knew that guy, well just a little. Got to visit his Topanga Canyon workshop a few times back in 1993 - 4 - 5. Was always hoping to meet him again. Some questions I had will likely remain unanswered. Rick was showing me a couple of Allen organ tube amps he had converted to hi fi use and had some music he was particularly liking at the time, involved pedal steel and sitar. I always wondered, who was that?
This isn't the future I signed up for.
