That pickup is a really simple one. I've seen very similar pickups. They were simply a steel plate with a paper insulator wound with wrap wire and a magnet stuck to the bottom of the plate. Not really worth it unless your trying to replicate a tone exactly? With that large mounting plate I would think a retrofit would be easy if you don't care about an exact replacement."Take two placebos, works twice as well." Enzo

Well, the guitar isn't mine, but I love the sound of these crude old things and I want to put something like it in one of my guitars.
Can I find something like this used anywhere?
Would a Lollar charlie Christian be pretty close?

Not likely. That pickup was wound with no other criteria outside of "does it work". That doesn't mean it would sound bad. But it does mean that when it was made no one cared what it sounded like. A Lollar CC will be built to a higher standard and perhaps sound too good for what you want.Originally posted by Elias Graves View Post

Regal Archtop/ Recording King guitar 1940. Based on a Charlie Christian pickup which would work just as well. Worth giving Jason a call Elias as he will probably know that pickup as well.Comment

Only saw your post today. Sorry but could not view your pictures but think I know what you're looking for.
I make something like that on special order. A lot of work to make one though.
Mine has a sweet bright tone, somewhat between a humbucker and a P90. High output, almost like a vintage-wound humbucker.
