Oh, O.K. thanks. That's probably the Elektrisola wire that I've been using for a long time. I'm currently trying to get wire w. the period correct insulation color like dark copper and velvet. I wonder if there is an other source than Mojo. I think the prize is too stiff and i would possibly like to buy bigger quantities.

Thankx bunches Terry. I got a deal going w. MWS. Their formwar wire looks O.K. to me. They wrote me that their plain emanel is of dark brown color. Hmm, thought it was always purple in the old days. Ever purchased p.e. from MWS? Hope it's the right built and color. Elektrisola doesn't seem to produce the antique wire anymore.
P.S. I tried to upload an Avatar but the board keeps telluing me that it was unable to save changes. Wazzat?

It's the red and orange from the copper coming through the brown that gives it the purple-ish sheen. The enamel is too thin to be solid.

Elektrisola just about controls the market now a days.
All the PE I've seen lately is the Dark brown.
I have done biz with MWS, and they usually have the best price on PE.
On the Polys usually you get the best deal from Remington Industries.
Here's what the Elektrisola looks like.

That may be so, but all of mine looks brown not purple.
I've rewound pickups that had the blackish purple wire, but not lately.

It's not vintage, but I mainly wind everything 42 Gauge, except vintage rewinds with these 2 Wires.

And, if the Pickup Sounds like Crap, With Poly, It doesn't cost an arm and a leg to redo it!

Anyone know the scientific reason why coating thickness affects tone - capacitance I guess?

And, if the Pickup Sounds like $h!t, It doesn't give you a coronary to take the exacto Knife to it!

Yeah, guess that's pretty much the closest you can get w. poly. Since I'm located in Germany I called up Elektrisola today. The lady already knew my problem from the countless other customers that asked similar questions. The FV, PE theme is a known issue at Elektrisola Germany. She asked me to shoot her an e-mail, so she can see what she can do for me. I'm very curious. THX for the links.

Received a quote a few days ago. As for the plain enamel, Elektrisola Germany would have to reimport the wire from their sister plants in the U.S. Not cheap..

Elektrisola has a big plant in Indiana, In the U.S.
That is probably where they make the PE.

I did some shopping at MWS a few days ago which I felt was a great smooth experience. They responded fast and accurately to my e-mails and shipped out the same day. Prizes are O.K. as far as I can see at this time of my journey. It's a bit of a hassle once the merchandize gets dropped in Germany. Lately quite many boxes get stuck at the customs which is a pain. To my best knowledge heavy formwar and plain enamel is not available in Germany. Makes things expensive for me. If anyone of you guys knows a German source, please let me know. Thanx

I wish I had taken more pictures of the rewinds I've done.
Before I took the exacto knife to them.
