  • What's in a mini-humbucker?

I'm looking for info on various pickup designs so I can make my own. It makes sense, as I'm building my own guitars and it would be nice to have my own pickups in there too.
I've found lots of info on single coils and humbuckers. What I really want to build is a mini-humbucker but I can't find any internal information on them - sizes of coils, approximate number of windings, construction, etc. Just a starting point, really, so I can get experimenting.

Does anyone have a drawing or some information on how minis are built? Anything would be greatly appreciated, especially from anyone who has made their own.

    Thanks!

Oh and if you're afraid to give away your 'secret sauce', perhaps we could trade? If you're in business, I'd be glad to help you out too.

Here's a thread I started when I made some MiniBuckers for a friend.

Start with that and then we can go from there.

Hey there, I do! I figured there would be a different set of brains to pick here!

Thanks for the link Jason. What a great article. I don't suppose you have any diagrams available?

Thanks Peter - that's a ton of info. Knowing the correct number of turns (4250) is particularly helpful.

Nice article Jason. I was reading it without looking at the author's name, and thought "hey, for once someone at PG knows what they are talking about" lol
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
