I think the bluing works on rod magnets, I will try it when I'm in the shop tomorrow.
It does work well on brass screws.
Don't leave them in the bluing too long I think it would eat up the brass.
I don't have any experience with electro-plating, but I have heard it discussed on the forums.
You might try doing a detailed search.
The Perma blue can be purchased at WalMart, if you live in the states.

Yes the gun blue works quite well on alnico ,The only think If found that it wont turn Is stainless Steel..........huh
