I can only guess so I thought best to ask...

Why are the magnets different heights on a vintage style Strat pickup?

Fender used a 7-1/4" neck radius on early strats.
With non adjustable Poles, Fender Compensated by staggering the poles.
The Early Strats had 4 Wound strings, only the E, & B were unwound.
The B string was louder than the Little E, so they made the magnet shorter.
As Neck Radius got flatter, there is less need for Staggered poles.
With Players who like vintage Strats, the Beveled pole Staggered magnets are very popular.
I build my Staggered SCs with less agressive stagger, that is a little flatter than vintage stagger.
