    Not sure if I fully understand but here goes. bucker wired in series but is actually 1/2 the dcr of 1 coil ?
    What gauge wire did you wind with ?
    Wind too tight can cause a short or many (This is more of a problem with higher/smaller gauge wire )& read low in the dcr

      Or, Possibly you have the two coils in parallel.
      4K x 2 in series = 8K
      4K / 2 in Parallel = 2K

        Oh god I hate to admit it...I had the finish leads tied together going to ground and the starts going to hot. In my defense I had been winding all day and rushed to post in pure tired exaggeration. I'll take a deep breath before I post something dumb next time.
