  • Back on the silicone.
The Dow Corning, does seem to be safe, and it does come in black.
    It is also very affordable.
Dow Corning 737 Neutral Cure Sealant Silicone Black 300 mL Cartridge
This opens up a host of possibilities of what it could be used for.

    **Edit
Though affordable, Ellsworth requires a $50 minimum order.
So that would require at least 7 tubes ordered at one time.

    • I started making some Music Man sized Multi-Coil pickups.
      Made in the cover.
I like everything all one piece, and nothing for the customer to take a part and tear up.
The Bass is my universal El'Cheapo Routed Lefty Test Bass.
I can mount any bass pickup up to 4 inches long in the bridge hole.
Same in the neck pickup hole, and plus the P-bass rout that came in the bass.

        • Grounding P-bass pickups

Tired of that static ticking noise on your regular P-Bass pickups.
Or noise if you touch the magnets.
Try some grounding foil, & grounding the magnets.

          • I bought another discount Lefty test bass.
This time a B-stock short scale SX Bass.
It was $65, and so far I haven't found the blemish.
I will paint it C A red, and put a set my Split Multi-Coils in it.
It sounds and plays great, it does need the string height set.

Just got done making a set of custom Multi-Coils for the Purple Baby bass.
I had to do some custom spacing, to get it to all work out.
While I had it a part, I shielded the pickguard.
Wow, the new pickups make it thump like a big bass.
              Here's a few pics.
All that remains is to paint the body Candy apple Red.
The weather will have to dry up some before I tackle that.
A remarkable little bass that plays like a guitar, but thumps like it's bigger brother.
All I have in it so far is $65, shipping, & pickup parts.

I'm also looking for the Gibson Mudbucker bobbin info.
I think that is on a patent somewhere.
If you know the patent number that would be a great help.

I have the info on the DeArmond Gold Foil model, and the "bobbin" on it is similar for a lot of their other single coils like the moustache ones etc. Amount of windings varies with the model.

                        Single coil:
                        Core Length 2.325 inch
                        Core Width .44 inch
                        Core Height .188 inch
                        Flange .870 inch

                        Other info:
Bobbin has a rubber magnet glued to a .050 thick metal baseplate and the top of the bobbin is made of .015 material that looks like micarta. Magnet is south up and measures 580-600 gauss +/-. Winding is CCW looking from top.

When I rewind them I use #44 SPN and try to match the ohms that I calculate from the weight of wire removed from that individual pickup, but it is something like 7000 turns usually.

                          • Looking through my old notes and found the dimensions on one of the DeArmond pickups that was used in the Fender Coronado. It is different than some of the other DeArmond models. This is for the version that has the all chrome top cover, not the one that had the black T shaped insert. Magnet poles are north up and it is wound clockwise with #44 AWG wire that looked like poly-nylon or single formvar.

                            Single coil:
                            Core Length 2.75 inches
                            Core Width .55 inches
                            Core Height .226 inches
                            Flange 1.125 inches

About 5000 - 6000 turns, my example was only 4800 approximately, which calculated to 6.8K ohms.

I'm looking for any information for a Jazz Master pickup.

                              • Here's what I have in my notes from rewinding a '59 Jazzmaster neck pickup.

                                Single Coil:
                                Core Length: 2.20 inches
                                Core Width: .195 inches
                                Core Height: .140 inches
                                Flange: 1.52 inches

Magnets are Alnico rods, I'm guessing A5 from other specs I have seen. Lengths are .460 +/- .005 bevel on bottom, protrude .030 from top of forbon. Magnet gauss was low, reading from 460-680 gauss, Average was 572. Top and bottom forbon is .093 thick. Neck pickup is wound clockwise North up. (Bridge would be opposite). I calculated 8.56K by weighing the wire. Pickup was wound with 42 PE that measured .0027 and it was lacquer potted.
