Happy NEW YEARS!!!!!!
Most of us use smaller stackable magnets.
I use a combination of different things depending on the effect I'm looking for.
On bar magnets I like to hit them with a strong charge.
Then to even out the edges, and mellow them out a bit I put long Ceramic Mags between the Neos.
Especially if your trying to get those subtle vintage tones.
Experimentation is what it's all about.
Not big here on the big super powerful dangerous NEOs.
I don't think they are necessary for most Pickup Applications.

I just learning... i don´t know nothing so i´m going to test it!!!! i recently i re wound a bridge humbucker from a stagg les paul type, 5022 turn, 4k screw 50 tpl , 5260 turn 4,25 k slug 80 tpl, 0,06 wire from Brasil and i use an alnico 5 magnet (already charged) from Shea and it sound right for my but maybe for more vintage sound it need to demagnetizing a bit with a ceramic bar? i think it have more power than a regular paf sound (i think)
They need to be at least N50 grade to get a full charge. I use two N52s which are a bit overkill, and are mounted on opposite sides of a drill press vise. BE CAREFUL, these magnets can slam into each other with incredible force and shatter sending shards flying. They can also pinch the hell out of your fingers, much like slamming your finger in a car door. IF you can imagine a two 30lb weights slamming into opposite sides of your fingers at once, that is the kind of power some of these magnets have. You dont need anything larger than a 1" diameter, but may want something larger if you are building a charger for constant use as a business tool.
That cherry tomato could be your finger if you aren't careful!

N42 is strong enough to fully saturate alnico bar magnets ,& size & strength is more of importance than composition ..Most of the strong magnets we have to charge magnets are probably overkill to get rods & bars charged

I use N42s and stack them.
They work fine.
And on the A4s, Ron Have you tried them in a Humbucker? Or are you grabbing this from thin air?
Keep in mind when you recommend for someone In a Foreign Country to get something, it may not be that easy to do.
Juan please Do try running the Gauss up and down on the magnets you have.
Good Luck,
when referring to, n50,n52,a4,n42 is neodimyum? or rare earth magnet are the same? sorry is a silly cuestion.
Here is where i want to by in Argentina, are not specific to the type of grade.

I was responding to this question.
Degauss is the same as demagnetize.
I was saying for your Vintage tone, to try what you say above.
On the Alnico magnets you have.

Good Luck,
A4s sound great in a bucker, the A5 he said sounded a lot stronger than a typical PAF, and he is right, because they were originally made with weaker gauss grades of alnico, which changed a lot over the years. A2 is another one that is very well favored, perhaps more so than A4, now that I think about it. But you are correct in thinking that maybe he could get the sound he wants from degaussing his A5 a little.
