  • Favorite Strat Pickups?

So what is your favorite Strat Single coil type Wind.
    Low, Medium or High output.
    Here is one of mine.
    I like a neck pickup around 5,8k w/42awg.
    Middle 6-6.2k w/42awg.
    Bridge full coil 6.5-7k w/42awg.
What do you like, either DCR or Turns?

I've heard good things about A3s in Strats.
I recently wound some A3 Tele Pickups, they sounded good.
I've not tried them in a strat.
On magnets I also like a mix of A2, and A5s.
      Thanks,
      T

I just wound my first strat PU the other day.
Bridge - 42awg 8400 turns, A5. Measured 6.5 on the nose. Non staggered.
I'm planning doing 8000 turns on the middle (RWRP) and 7600 on the neck, both staggered sets. A5 and 42awg all around.

I know this thread is about our favorites, and I'm way too new to have a fav, but I could not resist. I'm excited about it and I want to see what other folks say.

        Thanks guys!

As a Newbie/Hobbyist my favourite set is a medium output neck and middle with a hotter bridge.

            A5's with ~ 75% - 80% of a full charge

            Neck: ~ 8,600 turns of 42 AWG @ 100 tpl, ~ 6.4kΩ, ~ 2.50 henries
            Middle: ~ 8,750 turns of 42 AWG @ 100 tpl, ~ 6.5kΩ, ~2.65 henries
            Neck: ~ 10,000 turns of 42 AWG @ 100 tpl, ~ 7.6KkΩ, ~3.60 henries

Like one of my customers recently said to me, they give you some beautiful tones AND that heavy twang of the first couple of bar of the Seinfeld theme song when you want it!

Anyone else got any words of wisdom on Strat Pickups.
I put my fave SCs, but I actually play the strat Mini baby bucker blades the most!

I have very similar set in my strat
                  Neck:8700 turns of 42 AWG, 6,5k and 2,8 henries
Middle:8700 turns of or 42 AWG, 6,5k and 2,8 henries
                  Bridge:10050 turns of 42 AWG, 7,6k and 3,8 henries.

A5 fully charged i guess. I magnetize them the primitive way with rare earth magnets in a vise.
Kayakerca how do you degauss them?

I don't actually fully charge them up then degauss them, I just charge them up to the level I am targeting. If I over charge them, I start over again.

Here are 2 of my posts from an another topic in the forum describing the way I do it (correctly or otherwise).

                      Thanks.
It seems I will have to buy a gauss meter.

I think it's a worthwhile investment if you want to charge your magnets to a predetermined level that is less than 100%. It will also help you ensure that you haven't mixed up your magnets in your finished product (A2's with A5's as an example).

As a hobbyist, I prefer the one below of the 2 I have in the shop.

First set I wound for my Ventura model:

                          42SPE wire; A2 .650 flat poles:
                          neck - 8000T; 6.54K; 330-390Gauss
                          middle - 8400T; 6.98K; 290-34G
                          bridge: - 9200T; 7.7K; 300-500G

Not optimized for the 2 & 4 "quack", but beautiful full individual sounds and clarity

                          cheers,

                            Thanks everyone for sharing.
I forgot to include the question about RWRP.
I always make the middle pickup Reverse Wound, and Reverse Polarity.
Another detail is where you ground the coil.
I always ground the start lead.
                            How do you build yours?
