i have wound some alnico 8 pickups just recently and found them darker and more compressed than expected. 7500 turns of 44 awg poly dc was around the 18k area. i am interested if any one else has wound some a8 pickups and what experiences they have had with them. i was expecting them to sound brighter but not quite as bright as ceramic.

I have had similar results.
A8s IMO sound more like stronger A2s.
Stronger gauss, but with that tonal quality of A2, and not IMO like A5.
I like 15-16k of 43 SP with A8.

IMO ...I wouldn't really compare them to A2 .A8 has a big but tight bottom end & more mid than A5 ..the treble is smoother than A5"UP here in the Canada we shoot things we don't understand"Comment
