  • Cigar Box pickup

    Hello,

I'm needing plans for making a cigar box guitar pickup my husband is making. It has four strings using the standard wires of the four inside strings on a six string guitar. If anyone has some plans, ideas, guidance, and direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have seen folks using pbass pickups for this.

    Thanks

    Hi Kat:
Don't know what all resources you have access to?
You could make a simple blade pickup out of junk parts.
You could buy or make flatwork similar to this strat blade.
Mojo Pickup Parts » 2115441 Mojotone Strat Flatwork Top and Bottom (for 2.180 long bar magnet)

Take and cut something out in this shape, whatever string width you need.
Make the blade from a piece of mild steel to go in the groove, and put a ceramic magnet on the bottom of the blade.
You can find a junker pickup nearly anywhere to get a ceramic magnet out of.
For fiberboard, you can use some parchment paper or thin cardboard soaked in polyurethane.
Or you can just get parts from mojo.

Here's a bunch of pictures of pickups.
