  • Guild LP Type Guitar

I have a guitar coming in tomorrow that is supposed to need both pickups rewound.
It is a Guild Les Paul type guitar with metal covered humbuckers.
Does anyone know what I might be getting into?
I think it is a Solid body guitar.
    Thanks,
    T

Have fun Im interested in how it will go.
First removing the covers as they should be wax potted will be your biggest issue I think.
The soldered cover to the back plate should be easy. but bulling out the bobbins?
    Take your time.
BTW why doo they need rewinding and do you have the proper equipment/ parts.

I do wind and make pickups on a regular basis.
Just not sure if they are like gibson bucker types or not.
Not seen any guild solid bodies around here lately.
Everything I've seen made by guild is a high dollar affair.
I don't know the why, either, guess I'll find out tomorrow when I pick it up at my friends music store.
      Just looking for any Heads-Up!
      Thanks,
      T

I picked up the guitar today.
It had a replacement duncan in the neck.
It was a overwound bridge pickup.
The bridge P/U was original, and low wound around 7k.
Instead of rewinding, pickups that don't match, I'm making a new matched set.
I'll try to get a pic when I'm done.

Both of those pick-ups may be Duncan T as over the years Guild has fitted Duncan/Dimazio/Dearmond and even Fender pickups but quite often with their own 3 screw baseplate and their own Guild style covers but the guts are pure gibbo style bobbins and mags..

The neck was a botched up add of a SD JB 16k.
The bridge is the 3 screw plated cover with the speed bump on the cover.
It will get Ebayed, and the SD JB pickup will get sold at the Guitar store.
My new pickups are Standard Humbuckers with Mojo Nickel covers.
He can recoupe some of the funds by selling the old pickups.

Another question on the guild deluxe model.
It has the factory Reverse polarity switch.
So which pickup gets the most benefit from Rev polarity.
                The neck or Bridge.
I can wire either pickup to the switch.
When you flip the swtich for that pickup alone you are changing which bobbin gets fed output, and which one gets ground.
Don't know If you will hear much difference with a little offset in the bobbins?

                  Here are a few pictures.
The removed Guild pickup will get put on ebay.
The guitar had playing wear, and the customer chose the bare covers on the replacement pickups.
The guitar has a Factory master volume and factory polarity switch.
                  It sounds great.

                      Thanks for that.
One more thing I didn't mention.
I usually do mixed sets these days.
                      That is a 50mm bridge, and a 49.2mm neck.
I stock both sizes so I opt for both, because you get better string alignment.
You can't tell the difference just to look at them, You would have to measure between the poles.
