  • Coil tapping

Would somebody explain how it's done or different ways it's done and what to expect?

I know nothing about it so I'm guessing it's something that can be done to single coils and/or humbuckers.

    Thanks.

This got covered quite a bit a year ago.
Here is a thread I did on tapping pickups.
If you read the whole thread, you will find some love them some don't.
IMO they are a lot of work with very little benefit.
Give it a try, You may really dig it.

Another note on taps, stacks and humbuckers.
I like Single coils, but you have the hum issues, and they are known for their clear bright tones.
Then there are the tapped, and stacked.
Both work fine, but are more labor intensive.
That Leaves all types of Humbuckers.
IMO most guys build their neck humbuckers too hot, and don't build the bridge P/U hot enough.
If you back off on the amount of turns on the neck bucker, you can get some single coil tones with humbuckers without the noise and hum.
Humbuckers with 4-wire Hookup Cable, You have the split capability, if you want a reduced Single coil mode.
Most humbuckers are easier to build than stacks and taps.
But, It's great to have all kinds, and all the Pickup Options.
I Suggest Trying some of all types!
        YMMV,
