The thing about bass pickups is they have to fit different basses. I prefer soapbars for new basses I build, but I have to make many shapes to fit existing basses. Unlike guitars, there are a lot more styles of bass pickups.

Can you add the Guild Starfire (Hagstrom) BiSonic to the Poll?

Not familiar with the Bisonic Pickup.
I was just trying to generate a little fun and some Buzz on the B/H.
I agree with David, it all depends on what you have to work with.
I put a pair of J- bobbins in the Neck Soapbar making a tall humbucker with A5 rod magnets, for my Ibanez SR300L this week.
They sound pretty good, so I got to wondering what you other guys like.
Bass pickups are fun IMO to experiment with.

bass: so many different pickups types, so many dimensional differences

as a player, builder, and winder - I'm a fan of the split-P for how it works within the greater context of a group mix. single-coil J's are a somewhat distant next in my pickup preference.

not a fan of EMG sized pickups, and instead choose the Bartolini size whenever I use a soapbar shape pickup in one of my offerings. I like that I can wind just about anything on a bobbin sized to fit a soapbar cover without having to decide what a body will be loaded with during it's construction ... but I find in my market that traditional Fender sized/shaped pickups outsell soapbars by a large margin.

            Hey Rodent?
I like the sound of the bartolini size covers, but where do you buy them?
I am limited to what I can get from Mojo?

I find the Bart covers to be a little cramped sometimes. They do look sleeker than the EMG soapbars though, but I can do more with that extra space.

And in context don't look bad at all:

They certainly look better on a modern bass like that than Jazz pickups! I cringe when I see that!

I used to buy the Bart size covers from GuitarJonesUSA, which was the US distributor for WSC. Unfortunately they went out of business and someone has been selling off all their old stock on eBay. The 4 string Bart covers they had there are all gone.

I bought several hundred Bart style 5 string covers from G&B pickups. I liked the WSC covers better, which are the ones everyone seems to use. WSC has a $1,000 minimum order...

I had been trying to get Dave at Mojo to get some Bart style covers, but that never happened, and as it is they are discontinuing a lot of the covers I use, like the 6 string EMG 45 size, and the no holes MM covers. And that sucks.
