  • Building a P90, Screw size

Greetings! I am starting to build a couple of P90's for a new guitar I am making. I pretty much got the idea of the pickup dimensions but I need to know what is the pole piece screw size. Mainly how thick they are?
Thanks for you time to answer this.

    They're 5-40 x 3/4"

      Thank you John!
Do you mind if I put that file on the B/H resources thread?
      A very nice document indeed!
      Thanks for sharing either or!

Ask jonson. He gave me that along with some others several years ago.

That's good enough, we know where it is!
He's always been good to help out.
Kind of looks like the stewmac version where they use flatwork.
Actually that one comes out to 51.5mm
Here's the stewmac version, for comparison, that takes a standard 50mm cover.

Thank you so much! I noticed by other sources that sometimes its a number 4 screw and other times its a number 5 screw. Also because I don't have a P 90 with me for reference, do they all have a metal bar in the middle of the 2 magnets where the screws thread into? If so, it wouldn't be necessary to put threads in the holes of the bobbins. If the metal bar was not used then threading the holes in the bobbin would be necessary. Right? Any comments on that?

What John said 5.40s and yes to metal keeper bar but normally screws are tolerance fit to the bar but threaded in bobbin. John and Terry anything I pass to you guys or put on the forum is yours to place or do as you wish with.

You're Welcome. Good luck with your project.

I didn't think you would mind Bro. Just rattling your cage. I'm lucky to still have that stuff, and a bunch of other data. It's survived a couple of hard drive meltdown's. I'll pass the others along to Terry. I've probably got some more stuff he'd like too.

One thing that's missing in the drawing is a note saying that the unit of measure is inches. While one can deduce this, it's best to be explicit.
