    Yis boy Tap em ,
If you don't have a 5-40 tap just cut a slot in the end of a 5-40 screw with a dremel (I use hex head screws for better fit with a driver) ...Not sure if you ever noticed Seymour Duncan humbuckers. some of there standard humbuckers are like this .

I bought a tap, but using a pole screw and just cutting a notch out is a great idea...
hex screw is even better as they don't slip

If your tap is a 5-40, and you are using screws that are actually metric?
The metric screw will be a little loose, cause it is a bit smaller.

I tap mine with a tap in a cordless, it is much easier and faster.
But, do whatever works for you.
I have some notched phillip screws that work good too.
