  • Copper Foil Tape?

Looking for some economical sources to buy Copper foil shielding tape.
I saw some at Mojo, I don't need as large of rolls as they sell.
Looking for adhesive copper foil tape in 1 to 2 inch size.
1-3/8, or 1-1/2" would be great.
Please no ebay links, I don't have an account there.

I find 1 by 2 ft sheets for about $5 at a stained glass shop in Pensacola, FL. Try one near you.

I did almost 3 guitar body cavities with it.

              I did a search on Amazon.com
This seems to be about the best deal, just more than I need.
Would work well I think for pickups, and it has a conductive adhesive.

It is also available in 2 inch, and 3 inch.
              Just a lot more money.

It's been a long time since I needed copper foil tape (adhesive on one side). They do make copper foil for construction applications. Gilding trim appointments so that they'll take on a fancy patina and such. Some have a backing of adhesive or even a tar like substance (phooey, obviously). I haven't looked into all that is available for this sort of thing. Some products might require that you come up with your own adhesive. The last time I needed to shield a guitar was over twenty years ago!?! (maybe I need a new guitar, huh?) I got adhesive backed copper foil from a shop that sold products for stained glass work.

It's a new, "information pile" world though. I never call it the "information super highway" because of the litany of crap one must dig through to find anything real or useful

Maybe even as outdated info this can help broaden the search, I hope.

Well hopefully something constructive to add to the information pile !
I couldn't find any "guitar shops" selling this so I took another approach.
Found 3M make - 1181 Tape Copper Foil with Conductive Adhesive .
In Australia I found they import a huge roll so you just specify the width of the tape you want.
Head to your nearest 3M distributor .. the one that deals with electrical tape.

                    Here's a USA link

Gonna pass on the 3m copper foil products, You need to float a loan or sell a kidney to buy a roll.
For my pickup and import guitar projects, a very thin copper tape will do fine.
I'm leaning toward the 3 inch width, it would make shielding pickguards and covering a entire bass pickup easier.
Though a lot more than I need, I'm leaning toward the big 3 inch roll.
I guess I can put the remaining part in my will to the grandchildren!

Is it necessary that the cavity shielding be copper, versus aluminum?

I'm going to stick with copper for pickups and cavities.
You have to be able to solder to it, I'm not big on aluminum.
I have used a lot of aluminum foil on pickguards successfully, but components just sit on the foil.
I have some tinned copper that was used for emi shielding, it works well, but it is narrow and I'm about out of it.
So I think I'll go with the 3 inch wide copper with the conductive adhesive.
I'll use it to wrap bass pickups in soapbar covers mostly, body cavities, and on an occassional pickguard.
                          Thanks,
                          T

The trick with aluminum is to make a mechanical connection, which can be as simple as a ring terminal clamped against the aluminum with a small pan-head sheet metal screw driven into the wood. One solders a wire to the ring terminal. The following terminal takes a #6 screw.

You use it, I'm going to Pass.
It's not practical for my applications.
This thread is about Copper foil Tape, not Aluminum.
