  • Featured Pickup of the Month

We can start with the Strat Pickup, for the rest of August.
Anything you like or don't like about the Strat pickup.
Any mods, or winding data will be welcome, whether it be neck middle or bridge.
Magnet diameter, height, stagger, wire type used, etc.
The standard height between the flats, is in the neighborhood of .435", or around 11mm.
    Please discuss away!
Please keep it practical, light, and not too scientific.
    Thanks,
    T

Here's some of the staggers used through the years.

Wire that was usually used was 42HFV, and 42PE.
I have both, but usually use 42SP, or 42HP.
Do most guys use Single or Heavy these days on Strat pickups?

        Humbucking Pickups

This month, up for discussion is the Full Sized Humbucker.
That includes PAF types, low, Medium, High, DCR?
All types of Magnets, Alnico 2-9, Ceramic 2-8, and NEO's.
All TPL, and tensions used, or preferred.
Different Wire sizes, for both bobbins, or hibrid pickups, where one bobbin is of one gauge, and the other bobbin is another gauge.
Mismatched coils, the percent % more of one coil, than the other (symmetrical, vs asymmetrical).
Neck pickup winds, compared to bridge pickup winds.
Magnet orientation, and wind direction polarities used?
Covers used, Nickel, brass, plastic, or do you prefer no cover at all.
Humbuckers Potted, nonpotted, or just potted after the cover is installed?
        Discuss away!

            On a neck-bucker, I've always preferred a low wind neck pickup, A2, A4. or A5 magnet.
On neck pickups I usually wind both coils the same!
What do you like or prefer?
