Just curious as to the winding speed (RPM) that other makers use. I have been trying to wind at about 4000 rpm using my hand for traverse with the coils being loose in some spots . What is your experience?

That is way faster than I can hand tension and hand traverse.
Your loose coils is indication of high speed.
I like precision over speed.

I don't wind hand guided, but the speed that gives me reproducible results is 1,131 rpm. That and a dynamometer to set the tension before each wind gets my pickups where I want them to be with no loose coils or flared flatwork from too much tension.
