Seems the 78LO9 will regulate the voltage to 9volt? But with out the 78LO9 9 volt straight could be used?
The opb380 seems to be hard to find!
Here's what I made for my optical switch. I'm using a cub1 counter. It requires a TTL signal less then 3v@1kr to not damage the batteries. That's why the voltages are what they are. It should work well for other counters too. All of the parts for this should be available at Radio Shack for less then $10.
The switch on the right is the one described
The switch on the left in the picture uses the same circuit to trigger a reed relay. This makes it possible to use it with a pedometer, or a calculator. I'm still experimenting with this so try it at your own risk.
Parts:
3 X 10 ohm resistors
1 X 1k ohm resistor 276-142 Matched emitter/detector set 7805 Voltage regulator
Disclaimer; This is what I came up with fumbling around on a breadboard, and is open to all criticism. It's working good for me.
