  • Potential for a Winder?



    Seems like if you could slow this down, it'd be easy to build a winder from it.

    Any thoughts?

    Harbor Freight also sells a 'universal router speed control' that works good to slow down motors like that one.

        Not so fast, there. Routers use a different kind of motor than the disk sander pictured, and a speed control intended for a router won't work very well if at all on the disk sander.

        Specifically, routers use universal motors, which can run at 20,000 RPM but are easily controlled by varying the supply voltage, while the sander uses an induction motor, which turns at a fairly constant speed of ~1800 rpm or ~3600 rpm, depending on motor design.
