  • How do I wire this up?

I'm trying to build my first winder and can't figure out how to wire the sensor to the counter. I have the instructions but they might as well be in Chinese cause I'm lost. I'm using a wall wart to power the sensor if that makes a difference. Did a search but nothing came up. Thanks for any help.

what are you using for a sensor, a dc proximity sensor maybe?

It's one of these. Can't figure out how to wire the anode/cathode side.

So looking at the specs, i'd say power it with 12V, connect the IRED anode to V+, and the cathode to ground. Then you take the detector output (blue wire) and connect that to your counter input.

You'll also need a current limiting resistor in series with the IRED, so as not to burn it out. 470 ohms or so.

And depending on the internal workings of your counter, you might need a pull-up resistor between the output and the +ve rail.
