  • Lakeshore 410 Gaussmeter

    Hi guys,

It's been some tiome since I last posted here on MEF.

I was visiting an antique store today and a guy came in with a bunch of stuff trying to sell. I guess his dad was a ham operator and had a few goodies.

well in the box was a Gaussmeter and I gave him $10 for it. low and behold the thing works.

It is a Lakeshore 410 gauss meter, soft case, axial probe and manual. It also has a 3' extension cord for the probe.

Gaussmeter for Magnetic Measurements - Handheld Gaussmeter - Model 410 Product Overview

So what is this good for?

What do pickup makes use them for besides telling magnet polarity?

What would a Ham operator use it for?

The thing looks brand new after I blew the dust off everything with canned air.

    Any info would be great

    Thanks

It's a gauss meter, you paid $10 for it. It measures gauss from 0-20,000. Just hope that the probe is in good shape or you will will have to pay dearly to replace it. Find some magnets and have fun with it or sell it "as is" on Ebay.

It also tells you how strong the magnet is.

It measures AC gauss, too. A radio operator can measure radiated EMF from a transformer.

You could measure how much a plucked guitar string perturbs the pickup magnetic field.

"Det var helt Texas" is written Nowegian meaning "that's totally Texas." When spoken, it means "that's crazy."
