  • Handheld gaussmeter

I saw a vid of the Duncan shop where they had a small hand held gauss meter with a dial indicator. They were reading PAF mags at 50 gauss for A5 and 24 for A2. Is this correct?

Some research has led me here: Pocket Magnetometers And here: http://www.rbannis.com/files/magpricing.pdf

I would love to have such a device to tell me how my magnets are charged. Do these look like they would work?

That meter wasn't reading 50 Gauss. Those magnets read a lot higher than that... an A5 bucker magnet is around 330 Gauss.

That meter was just showing some relative scale of strength, from -50 to +50. That's not very helpful, as it only shows which magnet is stronger than the next. But it's not a Gauss reading.

I wouldn't waste my time on one of those. There was a project here to build a gauss meter that works really well. I think it's going to be updated soon.

Otherwise there are other commercial units that use a LCD display that would be much better than the Bannis thing.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Thanks, I will pass then. I have been checking out the Gauss Meter project, if it gets updated maybe I will build one.
