Magnet choice for charging pickups

I am thinking I may upgrade my mags I use for the charging process.
I am using disks 7/8" x 1/4".
When choosing mags is it better to have a wider(1") or narrow (1/2") surface facing the pole ends or does it really matter? I am thinking of blocks, 3"x1"x1/2"

Bill, those blocks should do it for you.
I have just one block that's 1/2" x 2" x 2" and that seems to do a good enough job. A second one wouldn't hurt but I have an iron charging circuit that wraps around the pickup and I just slide my armatures through it.

Anyways I am looking on the net for magnet suppliers and boy is shipping a killer, $40 buck to ship (2) 3x1x1/2 magnets is one quote I got back.

Anyone know of a decent source preferably in Canada?

Okay here's a question I haven't seen yet.

Is it absolutely essential to use 2 magnets when charging a single coil strat or tele pup? Does it need to pass in between 2 magnets.

Or

Can it be pushed toward a single magnet on axis and then pulled back, as long as it is as thick as the rod being charged? So for a 3/4" long max alnico rod would require a 3/4 thick neo magnet.

Are you anywhere near a Lee Valley Tools or Princess Auto outlet? Lee Valley carries a wide assortment of neo mags, and Princess carries a smaller selection.

If I go with a straight on and straight off method then I would only need 1 magnet, I think a 3x1.5x.75 would be enough, but lee valley's stuff doesn't get that big. I already have some 3/4x1/8 disks I have stacked.

That's cheap from China, but it depends on how many magnets you are getting. If that's for a couple than that's expensive. I just got 300 ceramic magnets from China. The shipping was $60. For 200 magnets it would have been $75.

....in the 3.5" hard disk you can find a very strong neo magnet as in picture.... now i made a test and it can change polarity and saturate a 5X20 mm alnico V rod....

Hey, for single coils what if you made a jig for neck and bridge using 1/4"x1" (D) rods with the same spacing therefore when you bring the pup towards the rod ends they would match and do each rod separately but all together at once?

Just thinking out loud, this would only work if you use the on axis method.
