  • New Guy: Hi and Used Winders?

Hey guys. Been a lurker for a little while now but finally decided to join as I'm getting pretty close to the point where I'm gunna try and wind my own pickups. I was thinkin' to myself the other day about buildin' a winder and it dawned on me: With how much these guys talk about better and better options for winders... chances are there are a couple guys with winders out there that they aren't using anymore? I've always been one for recycling and efficient use of materials, so I figured I would ask if there in fact was someone with a winder they've upgraded from and aren't using that wouldn't mind getting rid of it and freeing up some space? Either way, lemmie know, if not, I'll continue with my plan to build one.
    Thanks, and hi,
    Chris

      Hey Chris,
I've seen some of your work on Project Guitar, really nice stuff!

If you can build guitars that well, you should be able to make a winder.

Here's the one I made from and old sewing machine, actually it IS an old sewing machine. Complete with an auto traverse and a computerized counter.

Hahaha, it's not the fear of building it. If you've seen some of my videos (especially the one on getting two necks out of 8/4 x 36" stock) you'll know of my affinity for effective use of materials and minimal waste. I just figured if someone had one sittin' around, why let it go to waste? I'm movin' shop right now, but if nothing comes up by the time I settle, I shall be building my own
        Thanks,
        Chris
