Does the manual say anything about the voltage and current or power of the DC motor powering the winder?

Not much in the way of specs.

Motor Type: DC motor, Triac type motor speed circuitry

Overall unit voltage requirements: 117volts, 48-63 Hz

Power Requirements: Approximately 100VA

That actually tells me a lot, that the motor draws about 100 watts max, or ~1/8 HP.
