  • Elepro's Pickup Winder Controller Board

I have read all the other posts referencing this controller, and all of them seem to be lacking any definitive reviews of how well this item works. Before I purchase one from him, I would like to get some feedback on how well it does work. PM me or post your review here.

    Thanks, John

I have nothing but good things to say about Antonio's AKA Elepro's controller board
It does exactly what its suppose ,scatter or wind in a pattern
I have wound only about 30 pickups on my new winder using this controller (mainly because i'm away working )
& I'm am quite content with its capabilities ,In a couple of months it will see some action

Unfortunately I'm not sure if any of use who own one have brought it to full fruition yet. That said Elepro have been absolutely dependable in terms of backing up what he sells. His coding is good and if you had a problem I'm sure he would want to be the first to hear about it and want to find a fix for you asap.

Thing is, I mostly have all the mechanical side finished. I just need to decide whether I am gonna try to program my own, or buy his. $200 is a lot to spend, especially since I have a ton of arduino stuff laying around that I might be able to program a controller out of. On the other hand, a ready made solution sounds kinda nice.

I went with an over / under design to conserve space. Gearing is 2 to 1, and the leadscrews are 1/2-10 acme thread. Still need to make the wire feed and the backplates. I went with acme screw on the bobbin drive for ease of attaching different backplates.

The other nice thing about programming my own, I could make changes to the programming whenever I wanted.

Some things I would like to incorporate would be:
        1) File storage so you could have presets for certain pickups (ie Strat, Tele, LP) instead of having to go through the setup everytime.
        2) Manual Traverse control via buttons
        3) if I get really crazy, I could even add a gaussmeter

I would release the programming as open source. That way the community could make changes or improvements to suit their individual needs

Cool design Zigmart with nice implementation of 80/20 and void free plywood. I'm not sure I agree with the threaded spindle but if you can find nuts or flanges that are acme threaded and concentric it should be an easy fit. I'd be a little worried about having all that weight sliding back and forth on your traverse, you may lose steps at the ends of travel between the angular momentum of the stepper + leadscrew and the inertia of the winder on top but it should work fine with larger turns per layer numbers.

Thanks. Actually it is phenolic board. Whole upper section weighs less than 2 lbs. Had it whipping back and forth with a dragon stepper controller no loss of steps that I could see. I have the ability to make my own nuts and flanges, so the acme should work great, only time will tell. Gonna whip up a back plate tomorrow

yes but i think tht it's not very important in this application... it is not a cnc router....
if i'm right with inches, a motor step of zigmart design is 0.0005" of traverse movement.... if you see this then we have to consider backlash of nut and bendings of woods etc etc

Very true but I guess I'm not sure if the lost steps would start to add up or not. It depends on whether there are limit switches that keep everything lined up.

The traverse is gonna be setup the same as Elepro's with a limit switch on each of the bobbins extremes, they will just be in a different place than on his machine

That's a cool layout. I'm building one with Elepro's controllers, but I'm still working out the layout I want to use. I'm also trying to keep it as compact as possible. I don't have the room for a sprawled out machine.

It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
