  • Bobbin Shortage

I've been getting butyrate bobbins from Mojo, but they are constantly short on stock or backordered. Now they are a month out on cream slug-side bobbins.

I've tried drilling out the screw bobbins and I'm not really thrilled with the results. Good for testing and ok for aged sets, but not a perfect solution.

Short of casting my own, is there anyone else selling these? Would someone here sell me some, maybe?

    Thanks,
    James

...or if not, does someone else make bobbins that at least look the part even if the plastic compound is different? Something that's the right shape and the cream isn't too yellow or pink.

I vaguely remember Evan Skopp at Seymour Duncan talking about the enormous inventory of butyrate bobbins they had, maybe in a video interview of some Guitar Magazine I fail to remember the name.

Maybe if you shot'em an e-mail asking for a small supply just to keep going until the Mojo bobbins get back, MAYBE they'll consider it.

      I'd say it's worth a shot, IMHO.

Thanks, I'll try to track down his email address online and also give also them a ring when they open up this morning and hope for some help through Cust. Service.

What's my next best option for something readily available if all else fails? Even if not butyrate.

The butyrate bobbins 2115422 and 2115424 should be back in stock in two weeks. We have been adjusting our order points to account for an increasing demand. I apologize for the delay.

Thanks for dropping in with the the update, Tom.

Too many of us newbies spinning copper onto plastic these days.

I think he said they had a huge stock of cream coloring dye for butyrate, not molded parts.

I believe a member of this forum (though i can remember who ) contacted Evan about the butyrate dye & he would not sell any

Yes, I remember that also, but that's what he was talking about. You can see why they won't sell any, if you think about the fact that the color cream they use might set their pickup's apart from some of the others which are not the best shade of cream.
