I told the guy that you could buy the wire for 60$ and provided a link. I had assumed it was Plain Enamel. He replies, "Of course it's 60$, that's Plain Enamel. MWS sells this roll for 100$." So I looked up the code; the 155 is POLY.

Even if it were NOS, why would that make it more desirable than new wire? Some old magnet wire is not very good since the insulation has broken down.

That's the wire you need if you are trying to make an exact replica of a vintage Gibson pickup that doesn't work and needs to be rewound. It's a niche market.
