  • Laser Type Photo Tachometer

    Hi,

    Anyone use one of these?

Looks like you apply a piece of reflective tape on a rotating part and point the laser at it to take a measurement.

    A Couple Examples:

    Extech
Extech 461920 Mini Laser Photo Tachometer Counter | eBay

    Cheapy:
Non Contact Tach Tool RPM Handheld Digital Photo Laser Tachometer Tester | eBay

There's also a few Tach apps for the iphone. They strobe the flash led and you adjust the strobe period to make the marker stay still and then read the rpm.

No need to use it on the CNC winder though. From time to time, you'll find the odd other use for one of these. I actually used it to calibrate the X-axis drive power feed control unit on my milling machine.
