I'm curious to see if anyone here owns a George Stevens coil winder. Here are two of mine... an early 1950's model 210B handguided coil winder I restored in 2021, and a late 1950's model 225VP (variable pitch).
I'm winding all my pickups nowadays on this 210B shown at left and center. When I bought it, the motor was burned out and there was no controls left to speak of. Now it has a new DC motor and drive, and a Red Lion counter and.infrared turn counting system. It's a very smooth runner indeed, and definitely worth all the work. The third photo is a pickup being wound on it through my magnifying light (not shown).
The Model 225VP shown at right was supposedly owned by Motorola. My wife bought it for me for my birthday. This machine was originally set up to wind two coils at the same time, but the original tensioners are unsuitable for the wire gauges we use. It's going to be restored this winter with the same DC motor and drive the 210B has, but I'm undecided on what turns counter to use.
BTW - I need parts for my 225VP and an original copy of the Querfurth book, and have extra spare parts like gears and cams to trade. Just sayin
